Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Silverwood Yoga Studio?
The studio is in Brightwell cum Sotwell, just outside Wallingford. If you type the studio name into google maps it comes up with the correct location. We're the white house with the blue front door and steps up the drive.

Do I have to have tried yoga before?
No, I deliberately teach small classes so I can give each participant individual attention. I always offer choices in the session to ensure the poses feel right for your body whether it's the first time stepping onto a yoga mat or you've been practicing for 20+ years.

What should I wear?
Wear something that you are comfortable to move in, you don't have to have the most expensive Sweaty Betty lycra. Anything loose and stretchy that you can breathe in will be perfect. I've been known to practice in jeans on a busy day, though I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Do I need to bring my own mat or equipment?
We provide everything you need - mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, eye pillows and blankets. Though if you would prefer to bring your own along you are of course welcome to.

Do I have to be flexible to come to a yoga class?
Yoga is about so much more than flexibility. You don't have to be able to touch your toes or be able to do all the poses to feel the benefits of yoga. Trust me, there are plenty of poses I'm still working on.

I'm a complete beginner - which class should I start with?
Honestly, come to whichever class works the best with your schedule and I will make sure you can access it. If you really pushed me for an answer I would say 'Slow Flow' on a Sunday because it it gentle and restorative, but all classes are suitable for beginners.

How early should I arrive before class?
Ideally arriving 5 minutes before the class is scheduled to start gives you time to settle in and get comfortable. Don't panic if you're running a bit late though.

How much do classes typically cost?
Most classes are £13 each, with the exception of menopause yoga which is £17 as it is longer and more specialist.

Do I need to book in advance or can I drop in?
Please book in advance. As a small studio it is much harder for me to manage drop-ins. You can book in online up to 15 minutes before the class if there is still space.

Do I need to block book your classes?
I know how busy life is and personally find it really frustrating if I have to book a block of classes when I know I am going to miss a couple so all of my classes are book on a per class basis. You can book up to 6 weeks in advance to secure your spot, and if you give me more than 24 hours notice I will happily move your booking if you find you can no longer attend.

Will you adjust/touch me during your classes?
I rarely offer hands-on assists during my classes, and if I do I will always ask your permission beforehand and will absolutely respect your wishes if you would rather not be touched. I sometimes offer a head massage during savasana, but that is completely optional.

What is menopause yoga?
Menopause yoga combines specially modified yoga poses, breathing techniques and mindful meditation practices alongside evidence-based medical health, nutrition, natural remedies and well-being guidance. It is not a magic pill and does not claim to 'cure' medical conditions or 're-balance' your hormones. But yoga is scientifically proven to reduce stress and inflammation, which exacerbates many menopause symptoms such as anxiety, hot flushes, joint and muscle pain.

When can I join your mum and baby yoga class?
You can join from 6 weeks after baby arrives (or 12 weeks if you had a C-section) if your doctor says you're ready to return to exercise. The session will be specifically designed to help with postnatal recovery, focusing on gentle core rehab and relaxing stretches to ease the aches of carrying a baby around.

Can I buy a class pass?
When I first started out I tried this and it became too complicated as spaces in my studio are so limited some clients found they weren't able to book into classes before their passes expired. So instead of class passes I have kept my class price as reasonable as I can, and you can book into as many classes as you like up to 6 weeks in advance.

Can I buy a gift voucher?
Whilst I don't (yet!) have gift vouchers listed on my website, if you're interested in buying one please get in touch and I can email or post one out to you.
